I Found My Holy Grail Foundation... and Then It Disappeared

This post will have two parts: a review of the L’Oreal Infallible Shaping Stick Foundation… followed by a rant about how it’s nowhere to be seen, despite only launching last year.

I think we can all agree that stick foundations are far superior to liquid formulas. (Well, when you find one you like, at least.) They’re quicker to apply, more travel-friendly, and easy to touch-up when you’re out and about. I’ve tried and loved quite a few in my time, but when I picked up the L’Oreal Infallible Shaping Stick Foundation* I knew I’d found my new favourite.

The problem I have with other stick foundations is that they don’t typically last for very long. I have dry skin and live in rainy Manchester, so I don’t struggle to get my makeup to stay put – but stick foundations just don’t wear that well. However, the L’Oreal Infallible Shaping Stick* is still as creamy and blendable as other stick foundations (if not more so), but it wears so well on me. I’ve never found a foundation that’s so quick and easy to apply, that lasts all day. It’s pretty much perfect for my everyday makeup routine.

How do I use it?

I have three shades: 80 Porcelain, 100 Ivory, and 220 Toffee Caramel. I usually swipe 80 Porcelain and 100 Ivory around my face and blend with a damp ShopMissA Paw Paw Sponge* to even everything out, layering as required to cover redness. After that, I dot 220 Toffee Caramel very sparingly around the edges of my face as a cream bronzer. I personally prefer a sponge for application, but your standard foundation brush would work just fine as well.

The coverage is a solid medium, so I still concealer on blemishes and under my eyes – but that’s pretty standard procedure for me. Maybe the Shaping Stick doesn’t have quite as much coverage as other stick foundations, but it’s much smoother on the skin and easier to blend. (If you’re after full coverage, try the Revolution Fast Base Foundation Stick* instead.)

Why can I not recommend it?

I’ve been searching for my favourite foundation for years, and I wanted to talk about it a lot more than I actually have… but literally right after I purchased it, it disappeared from the Superdrug website. And the shade selection on the Boots website kept getting smaller. I haven’t seen in it a physical store for months. The only place I can find it is Amazon, which is fine, but the way it’s disappeared from drugstores has made me wonder if it’s being discontinued… or worse, reformulated. (I still haven’t forgiven Primark for frankly ruining my beloved PS Moisturising Stick Foundation.)

Fingers crossed that it’s just going to be an Amazon exclusive… but if that’s not the case, I’ll have to find a new holy grail foundation. (And yes, I’m very aware this is the definition of First World Problems.)

Let me know your favourite discontinued or reformulated product(s) in the comments below.
