The Collarbone Cut

Yet another hair update today! I’ve done something I’ve been thinking of doing for a while and cut my hair to shoulder length. In terms of overall length, this is only about two inches shorter than it actually was -- but I think it looks so different! I feel like I definitely have mid-length hair now, whereas before I could have got away with calling it long.

Once I started looking at some inspiration, the haircut seemed a bit less daunting. If you follow me on Pinterest (you should, by the way) you might have noticed that I’ve been pinning haircuts from Essie Button and Ingrid Nilson, and celebrities like Taylor Swift, Emma Stone and Marion Cotillard. I wanted something that sat just above my collarbone when curled, that could still be heat-styled but could dry naturally, too. As well as the overall length I wanted a fair amount of layering going on – pretty essential when your hair is as thick as mine. The shortest layers are about jaw-length so still long enough for a curl. The fringe is a bit short at the moment but that’s because I’m really lazy about trimming it, soon it’ll grow a bit and I can start sweeping it to the side again. Or maybe I might keep it like this. It looks kinda cute, when it’s co-operating.

I really like that there’s still a bit of lighter hair at the front, but now that it feels a lot healthier I might gradually lighten the very ends. I’m trying to avoid bleaching it with highlighting kits seeing as that’s what caused the damage in the first place.

So that’s my new hair! I better take some new profile pictures…
