Revlon Colorstay Foundation in 110 Ivory

Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Normal/dry skin in 110 Ivory

I think I've mentioned the Revlon Colorstay 24hr Foundation for Normal/Dry Skin a few times on my blog, but it's never had it's own review - which is pretty surprising, as it's actually one of my favourite foundations. Here's what I think of it...

First Thoughts

I bought this because I'd seen a lot of reviews saying that this is an excellent High Street foundation for pale skin tones, and when I checked the ingredients I was happy to discover that it doesn't contain perfume which I'm sensitive to. I thought £12.49 was quite pricey, though to be fair I normally spend £10 so it's not that much more. I knew there was no pump in it when I bought it because of all the reviews I'd read, but I don't think I fully appreciated just how annoying that would be. I have to tip this on the back of my hand which means I'm using quite a lot. I have a feeling this might be the first foundation that I actually end up finishing, just because I use so much of it when I apply it. I think for the price it really should have come with one.

How It Looks

Putting aside my dislike of the packaging, the product itself is really good. The colour 110 Ivory is perfect for me, in fact it's the best match I've ever seen on the High Street. The undertone is neutral - maybe leaning more towards the yellow side - which works really well for me even though I have a pink undertone as it counteracts the redness really well. You can see in the photographs that I have hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and near my jaw, and the foundation does a really good job of evening my skin tone. It doesn't mask the spots on my chin completely (I purposefully didn't Photoshop them out just to show you how it looks) but it does a reasonable job as a starting point before concealer.

How I Apply

When I first bought it, I tried it with brushes and didn't like it that much as it didn't get on with my dry skin. However, once I tried putting it on with a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge I was in love. Putting it on with a sponge makes it blend into the skin so much better, and I could easily build layers on areas with more redness. It does still cake a bit on my forehead where my skin is drier, but I find that all foundations do this. Patting in setting spray with a sponge works wonderfully for this, currently I'm using the Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Fixing Spray which does a great job. I would say it's a medium coverage at first when applied with a sponge, but I can build it up to full coverage on some areas on my face. If applied with the fingers you could probably get more coverage.

Lasting Power

What I really love about this foundation is how well it lasts. I should mention that I use primer, setting spray and powder in my routine, but the lasting power on this stuff is impressive. I love to wear it for work as I apply it at around 7.30am and it has to stick around until my shift ends at 7.10pm. On the areas that I build up it can feel a bit uncomfortable towards the end of day, but it will still look decent. Obviously I have especially sensitive skin and not everyone might experience this.

Summary

Overall I would say this is a really nice foundation for your kit. Not having a pump does take a while to get used to and it's definitely on the pricey side, but if you're struggling to find something pale enough on the High Street this is worth the splurge. I don't think I would get on with this as much if I didn't use this with a sponge and setting spray, so that might be worth considering if you don't currently have any in your collection. I love the finish and lasting power. It's my go-to product when I want high coverage and something that will last all day.

Have you ever tried Revlon Colorstay? What did you think?

  1. It's so annoying it doesn't come without a pump :( I really like this foundation - it's just not quite the right colour. Great formula though! xx

    1. Maybe mix it with another foundation if you've already bought it, then you won't waste it? Or use a tinted powder on top? :) xx
