The Charm of Instant Photography

Fujifilm Instax Mini Camera

I've had my Fujifilm Instax Mini camera for years (just in case you can't tell by the state of it). I bought it second hand from eBay in my second year of university, and we've seen a lot together in that time. You might have noticed in my studio tour, but some of the instant photographs are actually stuck on my wall, and I have even more are tucked away in photo albums. However, I realised a few weeks ago that the camera had been pretty neglected for about a year, and I had a few packs of film that were about to expire - so I've been making more effort to use it recently.

There's something very satisfying about getting a photographic print instantly, especially in this digital age where most of my images don't leave the external hard drive. It's such a beautiful way to capture memories. The Instax Mini photographs are about the size of a credit card, and fit perfectly in purses and wallets. I really like them in scrapbooks and photo albums, as well.

I love my current camera, but I must admit I do have my eye on the newer model, the Fujifilm Instax Mini 70. And not just because it's bright yellow - though I love anything that's bright yellow. It also focuses a little closer to subjects than my current model, and even has a self timer function and tripod mount, which would come in handy for group shots.

The film is quite reasonably priced for instant photography, though it's definitely cheaper to buy online, where you can get two packs of film (20 pictures) for £15. You can also get other accessories online, like cases and albums. I personally like to write on some of my photos with a fine-line permanent marker pen so that I don't forget when they were taken, but that's optional.

Now I just need to dig out my neglected rolls of 35mm and 120 film. Most of my work over the last couple of years has been digital, so I'd love to get a bit more variety.

I always read and reply to comments! Say hello!
