Makeup Look: The Festive Face

When it comes to Christmas and New Year's Eve, it seems to be the one time of year when I'm willing to step outside of my comfort zone and make my look a bit bolder than normal. I've got two looks coming up on this blog that I made for both occasions, whether you're staying in or going out. Both of them are easy and affordable. The first look centers around a bold red lip and a gold eye.

I started with the Revlon Colorstay Makeup for Normal/Dry Skin in Ivory, which out of all the foundations in my collection is probably the most party-proof and happens to be the best colour match for my skin I've ever tried. I applied it with a damp sponge and built it up where I needed it, concealing with L'Oreal True Match Touche Magique Concealer in Ivory Beige under the eyes and Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair on any blemishes. I set everything with a light dusting of the Soap and Glory Kick Ass Powder. To add some sculpt and highlight on my face, I whipped out the Sleek Face Contour Kit in Light - again, this is quite dramatic so I don't tend to wear it a lot for the rest of the year. Then I put a touch of the Natural Collection Blushed Cheeks in Rosey Glow on the cheeks and blended everything with a clean blush brush.

For Christmas, I think gold eyeshadow is a must. My base was heavier than normal for this look, and the lips are quite dramatic, so I decided not to make the eyes too over the top. I used the MUA Pro Base Eye Primer to brighten the redness on my eyelids. Then I used the Collection Little Mix Love Palette, with the glittery gold shade all over the lid, the darker browns in the outer corners, and the black shadow as an eyeliner. I went over the black eyeshadow with the Natural Collection Eyes Lines Pencil in Black and smudged it out (a much more forgiving method for applying eyeliner if you're not that great at it, like me - but if you've mastered winged eyeliner, go for it). To finish off the eyes I added a few coats of the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara. For eyebrows, I used the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper in Blonde.

As it's Christmas, it's the perfect occasion to crack out that bold red lip that you're too scared to wear for the rest of year - we all have one in our collection. For me, it's the Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 01, a bold blue-toned red. It's a little tricky to apply so I have to be careful and sketch it in on the first go and then build it up from there. To make sure it all looked even, I lightly traced the lines of my lips with MUA Lip Liner in Red Drama.

Let me know if you like this style of blog post as it's a bit different for me - I've got another one featuring glittery eyes coming up next week.

I always read and reply to comments! Say hello!
